U.S. citizens do not need a passport to travel to the U.S. Virgin Islands from the mainland United States. Since the U.S. Virgin Islands are a U.S. territory, travel is considered domestic. A valid government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, is sufficient for entry. Although, a passport will typically help you through US Customs faster when flying home. Our currency is USD, language is English, and we are in the Atlantic Standard time zone.
Renting a car in the U.S. Virgin Islands gives you the freedom to explore the islands at your own pace, without waiting for taxis or sticking to a set schedule. It’s ideal for visiting multiple beaches, scenic spots, and hidden gems on your own time. Just remember, we drive on the left side of the road here!
It’s a common and respected custom to greet others with “Good morning,” “Good afternoon,” or “Good evening” before starting a conversation or asking a question. This simple gesture shows courtesy and friendliness, and it’s considered impolite to skip the greeting. Whether you’re speaking with a local or asking for directions, starting with a warm greeting goes a long way.
The best way to protect yourself from the sun is to cover up. It’s also important to use only reef-safe sunscreen to help protect our beautiful marine life. Sunscreens containing oxybenzone, octinoxate, and octocrylene are banned in the USVI due to their harmful effects on coral reefs. Be sure to check the label and choose a mineral-based sunscreen that’s marked “reef-safe” before hitting the beach.
At Villa Copa, the water is safe to drink thanks to a three-stage filtration system that includes a UV sanitizer for added protection. However, it’s important to conserve water during your stay, as we rely solely on collected rainwater for our fresh water supply. Every drop counts, so please be mindful when showering, washing dishes, or doing laundry.

St. John, the smallest of the three main U.S. Virgin Islands, is a breathtaking natural paradise, with over two-thirds of the island protected as Virgin Islands National Park. Visitors can explore 25 scenic hiking trails, ranging from easy walks to more challenging treks, revealing ancient petroglyphs and postcard-worthy views along the way. The island’s coastline is lined with pristine white-sand beaches, vibrant snorkeling spots, or often both. Its laid-back towns feature inviting restaurants, lively bars with live music, and charming local boutiques. For adventure beyond the shore, book a charter to explore by sea or join a guided tour to discover the island by land.
While St. John does not have its own airport, getting here is easy via passenger or car ferry from Red Hook in St. Thomas to Cruz Bay in St. John. Taxis are readily available at both the St. Thomas airport and ferry terminals, and it’s a good idea to bring cash for taxi fares or the car ferry. Passenger ferry tickets can be purchased directly at the terminal or online in advance. The car ferry fee will be paid once you’ve backed onto the barge. After you’ve picked up your rental vehicle or have disembarked the car ferry, a Villa Copa representative will meet you in town to guide you on a short drive to the villa.
At Villa Copa, guests are not charged a cleaning fee, but we kindly ask that you help keep the home generally tidy during your stay. Our housekeeper works very hard to ensure that the Villa meets expectations for each guest. Please take your trash out regularly and dispose of it in the dumpsters located along the main roadway—do not leave any garbage outside, as it can attract unwanted critters. We take pest control seriously and ask that doors and windows remain closed to prevent insects from entering. Mosquitoes and noseeums can be relentless, especially in tropical environments, so taking these precautions will help ensure a more comfortable stay.
We suggest booking through our website as the optimal method to steer clear of fees imposed by Airbnb or other platforms
